The Board of Directors of CIT Sur has awarded Hoteles Reverón the Gànigo 2026 Award in the Tourism category. The award recognises almost a century of history and four generations of a family linked to the development of tourism in the South of Tenerife.
The jury highlighted a unique way of understanding hospitality: closeness, customer care and constant recognition of the people who have been part of the team. This award is shared by the group’s two establishments, Hotel Reverón Plaza, in Los Cristianos, and Hotel Spa Villalba, in Vilaflor de Chasna.
Recognition of a history shared with the South
The CIT Sur Gànigo Awards celebrate the talent of the region. In this edition, the jury wanted to recognise one of the pioneering families in tourism in the South, capable of evolving for decades without losing its essence.
In the words of CIT Sur itself, behind a company and its establishments “there are above all people, generations and a history shared with our territory”.
Where it all began: Fonda Aeropuerto
The history of Hoteles Reverón begins in 1929 in Los Cristianos. Antonia Reverón Sierra then opened Fonda Aeropuerto, in a coastal town that still had no running water or electricity. There she welcomed the first travellers arriving in the south of the island.
Her son, Juan Reverón Sierra, mayor of Arona between 1950 and 1960, took that vision further. He argued that “the road is tourism” and promoted the infrastructures that connected the South with the world. Thanks to his efforts, Los Cristianos began to become the destination we know today.
After his death in 1969, Agustina and Carmen Villalba kept the family business going. Afterwards, each generation has added its own impetus. You can read the full story in our history.
Reverón Plaza today: a legacy you can experience
Hotel Reverón Plaza preserves the essence of those beginnings. Its original stained-glass windows still fill the common areas with light, and the period floors remind you at every step where the house comes from.
This heritage is complemented by today’s perspective: 44 rooms two minutes from the beach and a rooftop with views of Los Cristianos bay. But what most defines the hotel is its team, with people who have been welcoming guests for years, guests who return as if coming home.
This connection with the territory continues in projects such as Planta un Sueño and in collaboration with local producers and businesses.
From the sea to the mountains, the same family culture
The family also brought this way of welcoming guests to the mountains. Hotel Spa Villalba is located at an altitude of 1,500 metres, in the heart of the Teide Forest Crown. They are two distinct hotels, one facing the Atlantic and the other among pine trees, united by the same way of caring for people.
Therefore, for those who visit us, the stay can begin in Los Cristianos bay and continue in Vilaflor, the highest village in the Canary Islands. Discover Hotel Spa Villalba.
Thank you for being part of this story
We want to thank the Board of Directors of CIT Sur for this recognition. Also, our team, both current and past, and every guest who has chosen to return year after year.
Almost a hundred years later, we continue to welcome every traveller as Antonia Reverón did at Fonda Aeropuerto.
